Victory Baptist Church

Who We Are
What We Believe (non-exhaustive)

The members of Victory Baptist Church are sinners redeemed by the blood of Jesus. We hold no particular expectancy of the type of people who come through our church house doors. Jesus reached the old, the middle aged, the young, the poor, the destitute, the privileged, the Jew, and the Samaritan, and we aim to do the same.

Bro. George Scruggs, Jr., is married to a wonderful "help meet", Jennifer, and together they have two daughters Aubrey and Savannah, and son Caleb. Bro. George holds a Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, a Bachelor's Degree of Science Forestry, and has taken the course Landmarks of Baptist Doctrine.  Bro. George was called to preach in 2007 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Denham Springs, La, during World Missions Revival.

There is one God, the creator of all things. He is one God in three persons:
*God the Father-       the providential ruler of all that is
*God the Son-           Jesus, the savoir of the world
*God the Holy Spirit- the reprover of all people, the comforter of Christians

The Bible is God's Word and contains the words of life. It is divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit and was penned by holy men of God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The Bible was written down without error (it is inerrant). The Bible has no error in it's teaching (it is infallible). All of the Bible is fully/equally inspired by God (it is plenary in it's inspiration).

God created the universe and all that is in it in 6, 24-hour days, then rested from His work on day 7. God created the universe to perfection; the present imperfect state of the universe was brought on by man's sin. God has many titles and names given in the Bible, among which are Jehovah (YWHW in original language), Elohim, El, El Shaddai, and Addoni.

Satan is an angel who became jealous of and hateful toward God, and lead others in rebellion causing war in God's Kingdom, from where he was cast out. Satan and his demons are enemies of God (though being mere creatures themselves), they are antagonists and deceivers. Satan is the accuser of the brethren.

All humans after Adam and Eve sinned were born into sin, through contracting the curse of sin through their parents (specifically through the male lineage as Jesus was able to be born sinless through the virgin, Mary). No humans are good as the definition of good is morally excellent (see Mark 10:18). People have no power or ability within themselves to gain a favorable standing with God.

Salvation is the instance in which God saves people from sin and His consequent wrath. God requires a holy, blood sacrifice for the remission of sins. The only acceptable sacrifice for any and all people is the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ (This is even true of the Old Testament; the blood sacrifice of animals was merely a covering for sin, but the Jew's sins were washed away by faith in the sacrifice of the promised/future Messiah, Jesus.). This payment for sins is available to all people and is imputed to them at the repentance of their sin and the placement of their full faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. At this point the person is fully saved, they are declared legally right (justified) and are imputed the righteousness of Christ; they also receive the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts at this point. Salvation can never be lost. Eternal life is eternal and Romans 8 tells us that no thing and no person (even yourself) can separate us from the love of God.

The Church is a local assembly/body of called out believers, and, it is our Lord's plan/program for edifying believers and spreading the gospel across the planet.

Jesus will return to gather His Churches, then being one Church. When this happens the dead in Christ shall rise first (their bodies), and those Christians which remain (alive) will be caught up in the clouds to be with Him. After this there will be tribulation on the earth like never before. At the end of this tribulation Jesus will return (the day of the Lord) to destroy the anti-christ and all who followed him, and Satan will be chained in hell. After this Jesus will rule on the earth in peace for 1,000 years. Then Satan will be loosed to tempt mankind one final time. After this short period of temptation Jesus will judge Satan and unbelievers by their works, and the heavens and the earth will burn up with a fervent heat. Finally, there will be a new heaven and a new earth, and the New Jerusalem will come down to the new earth and God shall dwell with mankind. Jesus will wipe every tear and there will be no need for the sun because Jesus will be the source of light. Amen.

Victory Baptist Church is a member of the Baptist Missionary Association of America, commonly known as BMA. Our church has a 60-year heritage which originated in Baker, La, in the home of Ms. Quennie Foster, in 1956.
